Why I work for myself

blog moneyI have been working online from home seriously for nearly three years now, and I have seen my fair share of internet scams and ripoffs.  Intermittently I have taken up jobs, mainly to get out of the house and have some direct human contact! Ultimately I am the kind of person who prefers to work for myself: as my brother famously put it, I do this so that I can choose who to work with.  Suppose I have a really awkward customer who I find it impossible to work with.  As an employee I just have to put up with it: as my own boss I can tell that client where to go!  Of course any sole trader values their customers and generally treats them better than and employee would. But it is nice to know that I have that option!   That freedom is worth a lot to me and it is why I continue to write posts to my blogs and do (boring) keyword research.  However lonely things can get, I would rather be chained to my laptop for ten years than work another day in the jungle of office politics again.

Blog to the Bank – make more money blogging

I have read a lot of sales pages for guides that claim to teach you all there is to know about blogging for money. Mostly they are just an introduction to the various blogging platforms with some generalised tips about traffic techniques – certainly not worth paying for.

On the other hand, there are some guides that are worth every penny, and they will pay you back many times the cover price in increased blogging earnings. If you have not heard of Rob Benwell’s famous Blogging to the Bank guides, you need to get out more!! This is a young guy who started his blogging business with just a hundred dollars. Now he has turned that initial investment in himself into a substantial fortune. You can learn his methods and copy his steps for your own income generation. Blogging to the Bank 2.0 has just been released, with full up to date help for anyone who really wants to make money from their blog.

Blogging is acknowledged to be the fastest most effective way to start making money online and with the system you will learn in Blogging to the Bank 2.0, your potential for big autopilot earnings just increased exponentially. Grab it now and start making money from blogs!

New Paid to Blog sites

After the recent drop in earnings for paid blog reviews, this week I found a new site called Buy Blog Reviews. They are offering bloggers the chance to earn 70 per cent of the price that the advertiser pays for a blog review – this is a lower commission than many of the other paid blogging sites, so it is worth signing your blogs up and see how much you can earn. You set your own desired price when you register your blog, if you have a quality blog with good traffic I would set a price of at least $25 – out of that you would receive $17.50. Buy Blog Reviews plans to pay out 15 days after you post the review, faster than many other sites.

You will not find any paid blog reviews on this website. I have other blogs where I make my paid blog posts, unrelated to this URL. However Google obviously doesn’t undrestand this as it dropped my page rank a couple of months ago for the mere mention of the words ‘paid to blog’!

Bloggerwave payments for blog posts

I went across to Bloggerwave today to see whetehr there were any posting opportunities for the blogs I registered at the site (this blog does not carry paid posts). It has been a long time since I had any assignments for Bloggerwave – in fact, it was last December. Every time I checked since then there were no offers for blog reviews. Today there was a new posting opportunity, paying $10, for short posts on tow of my blogs. I quickly accepted them before they could be taken by other bloggers: there is always a limit on the budget so you need to act fast. Read more »

Why I left Blogger

Here is just the latest reason why I prefer WordPress. I have two blogs that have not been possible to migrate to WordPress. Today I tried to write a new post and this is the response I got when I clicked the bookmark link.

What the h*** is that about?

I would be very upset if my search for help with Atlantic City hair loss treatment delivered the same results. Hair loss is a sensitive subject and its sufferers will be easily put off in case of any queries like that.

Plugin Makes Your Blog SEO friendly

WordPress is such a user friendly blogging tool and some great plugins have been developed to make it even better. The All in One SEO Pack Plugin for WordPress is one of my favourites, because it does all the search engine optimization (SEO) work for your blog in a couple of simple steps, and will help you make more money blogging. If you do not know much about SEO, no need to worry: the plugin asks you a few simple questions and you include your information in boxes on the ‘options’ page once the plugin is installed. If you are a complete newbie to SEO then you can download this excellent free ebook, SEO Made Easy, that will give you a good understanding of search engine optimization. Maybe you think that organic SEO sounds a bit geeky? Is it boring to talk about your SERPs position? Well there is nothing geeky in getting lots of free traffic from the search engines and Making Money From Your Blog!

The All in One SEO Pack plugin sets up all the key on-page ranking factors. For me the cleverest part is the way it deals with titles. The SEO plugin for WordPress changes all page or post titles from the WordPress default style, which is not search engine friendly as it starts with the main blog title. So every page has the same initial title. The plugin puts your post or page title first when seen through a browser bar. This is a handy tool – I spent ages changing the WordPress code manually to do this, and now I find it is available in a simple plugin. Remember, when you download this plugin: it can seriously improve the money you make by boosting your search engine rankings.

Blogging Profit Tips

This article is not intended to give you the newbies course about hosting, installing a blog on your domain and etc. It will give you some serious advice on your blog business. Bad blogging habits are easy to get into, and one of the worst is to leave your ‘About’ page unchanged. You know the page: it is provided by WordPress as standard and a whole host of bloggers leave it unchanged. Why they do this is known only to them, because this is the first page that a large number of first-time visitors to a blog check out, and the reason why many of them leave without looking further. WordPress Kontera Plugin

I have been displaying Kontera ads on my websites and blogs for a few months but I was holding back on using Kontera on many of the blogs because some of them were also selling paid blog reviews and the sites that pay you to post do not want to see other people’s ads in their sponsored post. One of the main Paid Post companies requires that posts submitted to them should not contain any advertising that overlaps the text. I already have an excellent plugin that can easily stop Adsense ads showing in paid blog posts, and I wanted to find a similar tool to manage my Kontera ads efficiently.

So I decided to find out how I could start displaying Kontera on my WordPress blogs: I thought there should a a Kontera WordPress Plugin somewhere on the web, and I found one quite easily a Karol Krizka’s Blog.  This is a great site for all sorts of technical help: I downloaded the plugin, uploaded it to my blogs using FTP and activated it then I inserted my Kontera Publisher number in the Options screen then, of course, I changed the link colour from orange to blue.  Now the Kontera integration Plugin is managing all my Kontera ads and I am looking forward to making more money with higher Kontera earnings on all my blogs.

Paid Links Attack by Google

I wrote at the end of October about the latest Google Page Rank Update and its effects on many well known websites. Google declared its opposition to sites that sell paid links several months ago – yes, paid links are the mainstay of Google’s business but they do not like other people to make money from paid links. When the page rank update took effect the loss of page rank was damaging to a number of high profile respected websites. For my own businesses I noticed that several of my websites and blogs gained their first page rank or had an increased page rank update. Google states clearly that page rank is decided by a complex algorithm that balances the quality of the website content with its popularity. Popularity is measured by a mix of inbound links, readership and numerous other SEO factors. So how did the Google algorithm measure the page rank of a Dog Health Tips site as PR 4 one day in October, and Page Rank 0 a few days later? Google deny that they were targeting sites that were selling text links, but there is no other explanation for these page rank reductions.

Using your Home as a Business Centre

Starting your business from your own home reduces the investment that you need to make, so it can be an appealing idea: setting up a profitable home business needs plenty of organization and self discipline. Your home continues to be the place where you and your family live, and the business cannot be allowed to take over or no-one will do well.

The days of dormitory suburbs are over, and every town and village contains aspiring teleworkers, desperate to leave soul-destroying jobs in large conglomerates. The home has massive potential to adapt for multiple use, with a little planning and adaptation.

If you need a well resourced home office for your business, choose an area that is comfortable and suitable. Decide how much space you need, make sure it is well lit and warm enough. If you are using your computer, make sure your seat is well designed. Repetitive strain and neck injuries are sadly becoming more common and this will not help your business!

Businesses that require stock can be a real challenge for the home entrepreneur. Look for a space where you can access the items easily, and store them at the right temperature without causing a hazard to anyone else at home. If you turn a garage over to storage of goods, that could be eligible for a tax allowance so check with your accountant.

Do you need to meet customers or clients at your home? Make sure you have an area that looks professional and businesslike, where you can take them without tripping over bicycles or children’s toys. If you start to get more than a couple of visitors a day, you will need to think about getting permission to carry on a formal business from the local council – before the neighbours start complaining. Or meet your visitors elsewhere – depending on the situation, you may consider checking out cafes or hotels where noise levels are not too high. Otherwise look for a local serviced office centre, where you can often rent space by the day or even the hour.

Using your home as a business centre can save you a lot of cash, and help you get started in the tough early days of your new home business.
