Get Free Website Traffic From Online Forums Your website needs lots of visitors (traffic) if you are going to make money from it. If you do not have a large advertising budget at your disposal, online forums can be a very effective way of generating quality targeted traffic to your site for free. Some forums now give you the chance to earn a share of the income as a spinoff to your participation in the forum, and as a result Forums can generate significant quality free traffic - real visitors - to your website or blog. To use the traffic generation possibilities to advantage, look for forums in your niche. You can do this one of several ways, I generally search for “webmaster help” + “vbulletin” or “phpbb” or even “forum” this should pull up at least a handful of forums within your niche or sector that you can join. After registering, make sure you complete your profile, include an avatar or photo if that is the style in the forum. And of course make sure you put your website or blog address and use all the signature space. If you are lucky, your home page link and signatures may get you a back link. If you want to work harder you can improve your chances of getting links - and traffic - from a forum. Find the section (known as a thread) in the forum called 'introductions', and introduce yourself. Try to make it interesting. This thread will get more entries as members welcome you, with luck the page will get indexed in the next Google crawl. Find the MEMBERS list and search through to find a prolific poster - someone who posts a lot and is well liked - these are good people to get friendly with. Click on their profile, then have a look at all their posts or threads they’ve started. Find an interesting topic where you can make a useful contribution and make a relevant and helpful post. Repeat the last two steps once a month. This will give you a new relevant link back monthly, as well as the one in your profile. There are six elements to successful Forum use: 1. Be helpful and informative in the forum, even if you disagree with the other person’s point of view. Always preview your contribution before posting it, and delete anything that could remotely cause offence. Remember also that others may not share your sense of humour so save the witty remarks for your family. If you are seen to be patient and constructive, other contributors will take more notice of your posts. 2. Give a considered, helpful answer: others will reply to the same question, but a well-written and supportive contribution marks you out as a trusted authority. The questioner is more likely to praise you and pass on your links as a result. 3. You need to be available – if you are serious about being a presence in a forum, aim to visit regularly. Frequent contributors will be posting questions every day and your reputation will benefit from showing prompt answers. Be sure to subscribe to the psts you are involved in, it will save you time when you return. 4. Active contributors get noticed. By being available and giving helpful answers you show you are reliable and well informed. Make your answers as brief as possible and they are more likely to be quoted. 5. Use your Signature Box to good effect, to show your status on the web and direct visitors to your targeted web pages. Your email address and website link will drive interested visitors to your sites. And check it regularly to make sure your links are up to date. 6. Whenever you post useful information, try to incorporate a natural reason for the reader to visit your website. If you are giving information on picking the right dog or puppy, give a brief answer and point to your site for more detail. This is known as in-context linking, which can help improve your forum and website rankings in comparison with others.
